Bits of Our Day

Because I have been a bad blogger lately and am not sure what to blog about right now this is what you get…random pictures from my day!

Zane and I started our day with peanut butter toast and banana.
This is my favorite breakfast, and I have passed on the love of it to Zane.

Jaxen was super excited to wear shorts to school today,
well really, he was just super excited to go to school.
These pics are of him jumping up and down and clapping.
Seriously - he was jumping up and down clapping because he gets to go to school.
He did not get that from me! Haha!
And if you want to see the funniest video - go check out my Facebook page :)

After Jaxen left for school, I was picking up the house and saw this…
our rock jar and worm jar.

And Jaxen has been picking flowers for me, so I’m collecting them in my kitchen window.

I mowed our lawn today (for the first time this season) and was admiring it
while talking to Nik in his office.
This pic is from his office window.
Green grass, freshly mowed and the trees are blooming!

So tomorrow night I am hosting a baby shower and serving dinner.
We are having grilled chicken, salads (garden, broccoli, pasta and fruit), rolls and sundaes.
I was thawing the chicken today and then marinaded it.
If you are looking for a good chicken marinade - look no more.
My favorite is Classic Steakhouse (yes, steak marinade…but trust me)
and Nik’s favorite is Spiedie Sauce.

I was putting dishes away this afternoon and this is what I found…
a spatula and a shoe in my bottom cabinet. Haha!

I think I mentioned before that Jaxen has been afraid of his bed…
so today, I pulled back out his toddler bed and put it on the floor.
This way, he can choose what bed to sleep in at night.
I hope this helps…still not sure what is going on.

We hit 80 degrees today...
(although the next few days we are supposed to drop down in the 60’s again)
therefore, my toenails are painted and I got new sandals.

And if you ever think my house is always clean and put together
(first of all, see picture above of a shoe in my kitchen cabinet)
and then let’s take a look at this…
This is my “get rid of pile”.
It started with a tote and has totally expanded.
This system works for me though.
It is out of sight (mostly) and every time I come across something I don’t need,
I just (literally) throw it in this pile.
One day I will have a garage sale - or just give it all away - not sure yet.
This section is upstairs, outside of Jaxen’s room in a weird part of our hallway that leads
no where and is completely unused (until now).
This is also where we are keeping the bed frames and boxspring from Jaxen’s room.

Want to know what I’ve been doing in my spare time?
Cutting out things for Jaxens class.
This is my third (of 6) projects that I am cutting things out for.
36 crab claws, 36 eye stalks, 108 crab legs and 18 sea shells…
one project…3 more to go!
But it was a way I could volunteer for the school - and I’m happy to do so.

Nik decided it would be fun for him and the boys to mow the backyard tonight.
Zane had the best time with his daddy on the mower!

Jaxen joined in for a little ride as well.

And then I left them to do their “boy things” while I went to Bible Study.

Hope you enjoyed a peak into our day today!

Three Things

JAXEN

1. Saturday afternoon Jaxen, Zane and I walked to McDonalds for a snack. Jaxen’s choice was french fries and ice cream. It took him awhile but he ate the whole cone! Zane’s choice was french fries and apple slices. Mine was a coke. We spent a very long time there - but it was nice to get out of the house and do something a little different!

2. Jaxen has decided he does not like almost all food, “anymore”. His words. He has always been a bit picky…but it has gotten so much worse! I force him to eat (a version) of what we fix for dinner but it is like pulling teeth every night. And even when I made his lunch for school this morning - he hardly wanted anything. So frustrating. But I have learned not to put things in his lunch that he says he won’t eat - because it will go to waste. I bought some “Lunchables” today - we will see how that goes. But blue gatorade, he likes :)

3. Jaxen has recently become very afraid to be by himself. It’s gotten pretty bad. Not sure where that is coming from but we are trying to work through it. He even asked if we could take his bed frame out (because he thinks it’s too tall and scares him) so we did. Then the next night, he wanted his box spring out of the room (again, it made his bed too tall). So - he is sleeping with a mattress on the floor - covered in all his stuffed animals. It’s actually kind of cute!

ZANE

1. I feel like today, Zane really started walking more. Before he would take a few steps here and there…but today… he was just walking all over the house! He is such a big boy…and so so adorable. I know Jaxen was too, at this age, but seriously - this little man has my heart!

2. Zane has discovered “outside” and loves it! He wants to be outside all the time - it’s a whole new world and he is having the best time exploring it. I am trying to make sure we spend a little bit of time each day outside and tonight, we even had dinner outside again (which I love).

3. I am officially weaning Zane from nursing. I nursed him an entire year and am so glad that I did - but man, that was one of the hardest things I have done. About 2 weeks ago, I slowly stopped nursing him during the day, and that went fine. And then 2 nights ago I stopped nursing him at bedtime. That has gone ok…he really throws a fit at first, but calms down pretty quickly. I have not been able to drop the morning session of nursing…but am working on it and hope to have it dropped in the next few days.

BONUS

I know I have said this before, but seeing my cutie husband loving on our kiddos is one of my very favorite things! And Zane has really started taking a liking to Nik. He has always been all about his momma - but he is starting to realize how fun his daddy is - haha!

SUNDAY SELFIES

I tried to take a few picture of the boys outside and these crack me up :)

 And here is my favorite!

Spring Break Week

Well, it’s Spring Break over here!

Monday was pretty low key. I wanted to go outside and start getting our lawn ready for spring (pick up all the big sticks, rake the leaves and spread mulch) but it was so muddy. So I decided to pull some weeds instead. And then that lead to collecting worms with Jaxen. So we caught all kinds of worms, and put them in a jar with some dirt. Not sure what to do with them now…they are still in the jar.

That afternoon I did grocery shopping and then we pretty much laid low, ate easter candy and played with the boys.

Tuesday, I took the boys to the park to meet up with some friends and we had the best time!

Jaxen and I all ready to go - sucker for him, hot tea for me :)

It was a bit chilly…maybe 40 degrees (the wind was what was cold)...
but we ended up staying for about 2 hours and had the best time!

That evening, after I did baths with the boys,
I went to a meeting while Nik hung out at the house.
He texted me this picture “all I need to be happy is some chips and a drink!"

Wednesday, Nik left for some field meetings in Boston so the boys and I took off on a trip on our own! We headed to Watertown…no place too exciting, like a beach down south would be. But we did meet up with some friends for lunch at McDonalds and ended up being there for 3 hours! It was crazy and hectic and fun and loud. But it was cold and raining all day…so that was the best place for our littles to run out their energy!

Later that afternoon we ended up at a friends house where we stayed the night. They have 3 girls and those girls and my boys had the best time ever. The oldest had the greatest time taking care of Zane. And the two younger ones and Jaxen just played and played non stop. And at bedtime they all slept in the same room in bunk beds (minus Zane) and Jaxen thought that was the coolest thing ever!

It was still cold and wet on Thursday so the kids went swimming (indoors) for a bit and then just played their hearts out. It was fun for Jaxen to have new toys and friends and fun for Zane to basically have 3 little girls at his beck and call. And boy did they spoil him! Haha! I even got away for about 2 hours to run a few errands in the “big city” without kids. Very nice! And yes, a vanilla coke at Sonic was one of my stops - haha!

We took off Thursday, around 4pm to head back home and by 4:15 Jaxen was passed out. Zane was not far behind. They had a great nap and I enjoyed some quiet on the way home.

And I did not take one single picture. Bad blogger, I know.

Today (Friday) I starting spring cleaning…or should I say spring purging! Basically, I’m starting in one room and working my way through the house putting all our winter gear away and trying to find, wash and put out summer stuff. It’s a process, for sure…and sometimes it gets worse before it gets better. I’m in the “worse" stage at the moment!

Nik will be home tomorrow and I’m hoping all this rain will stop and the boys and I can go do something fun outside. We shall see. If not, Red Box will probably be calling my name - haha!
