A Day in the Life - Saturday Edition

My alarm went off Saturday at 6:40am. The first thing I did was check the weather....

Jaxen woke up not longer after that, and we got ready for Jaxen's flag football tournament. I am sporting maroon in support of Jaxen's team - the Rockets.

We were out the door by 7:20am. (We left Nik and Zane sleeping at the house.)

It was cold, but all the boys played their best! There was not any complaining about the cold - they just went out on the field, had fun, and WON! Jaxen even got 2 flag pulls - I was so proud of him!!!!

Nik overslept and missed the game (because Zane turned his alarm off - ha!) but they got ready and met us for breakfast with Brooks and his family. Zane chose his outfit for the day :)

Full bellies, hot coffee/tea, and we were ready for game #2!

This game did not go as well as the first - they played a pretty tough team. They did their best, but lost, and that was the end of the tournament and season. I was so proud of Jaxen for trying something new, learning, and giving it his best - especially in the last few games!

By 12:15pm we were on the road, running errands. First up, air in our tires. Second, a QT treat for our favorite Rockets football player (and the rest of us). Third, a birthday present for a neighbor kid. Then, shoe shopping (because someone always needs shoes - this time it was me!).

After that we were on the hunt for gloves for Jaxen...and did not find any that will work (yet). While Nik and Jaxen were looking in one store for gloves, Zane and I went to Hobby Lobby. Zane loves Hobby Lobby almost as much as me.

I want all these cute things in my kitchen. Stat!

We were home by 3:15pm. I put the boys to work, doing chores. Nik took a nap and I started dinner. Tacos for the boys and Queso Taco Soup for me!

By 5:20pm the boys were dressed in their Halloween Costumes (SWAT costumes for the win) and having fun taking a few pics!

We picked up Brooks soon after and headed to our church's Trunk-or-Treat!

They had some wonderful trunks! It was cold...but everyone had a good time.

We then warmed up by the fire and enjoyed some S'mores before heading home.

We were home by 7pm and I was finally sitting down to enjoy my soup while Nik watched football. And after the boys went to bed, Nik made delicious chocolate chip cookies!

And that was our Saturday!

Now that football is over and the cold weather has arrived I am hoping our days are filled with more time on the couch, hot beverages, crafts and playing games!

Life Lately

Last weekend they boys celebrated their bestie's 9th birthday - Happy Birthday Brooks!

Each boy had picture day this week!

Zane actually let me take a picture of him, all ready to go - what a cutie!

Jaxen did not. This is the best I got. Haha!

Let's chat about the weather a minute. I know it's crazy everywhere.

Tuesday Jaxen had football practice in 40-degree weather.

It was 85 Thursday and is supposed to be 45 Saturday and then snow Monday.

What happened to fall? I feel like we skipped the 60's and70's all together.

Zane has been all about taking selfies in the car line while waiting on school to start...

This kid. He is funny.

And sweet.

I'll leave you with this today.... true story.

Halloween Craft

I am not too big into Halloween, but when I saw this cute craft from momfessionals, I knew the boys would enjoy making it!

Supplies needed: glass jars (any size), gauze, googly eyes and tape

How to: tape your gauze to the jar, wrap gauze around, tape the end piece of gauze, tape the googly eyes on.

How to take it the extra step: add lights! I did not have any battery-powered votives, so I found some battery-powered Christmas lights and added them in. You can see the light strand, but it's so cute all lit up, I didn't even care - lol!

Fall Cleaning

I have been deep in a cleaning/purging/organizing mode. No clue why. Most people probably feel this during spring. But for me, it's really kicked in this fall. I think it partially has to do with the fact that I have let things go around here the last few months - and instead, have been enjoying the beautiful warm days.

Just this last week I have:

  • purged/organized/re-arranged the boys room
  • purged/organized the hall, foyer and office closets
  • painted the upper part of the fireplace
  • cleaned behind the refridgerator
  • purged/organized the pantry
  • deep cleaned our bathroom
  • vacummed out the van

...and there is always so much more to do!

The boys were home 1/2 day Wednesday, Thursday and Friday - so they have helped around the house with chores each day before playing with friends. We have read more, and Jaxen even worked with Zane to teach him how to write his ABC's! I was actually really impressed with Jaxen. He explained how to write each letter, was pretty patient with Zane and even encouraged/congratulated him when he did well!

I checked out an Origami book from the library and they have been practicing

The kids spent some time making a birthday card for a friend

We have some fun things ahead this weekend and over the next few weeks. Hopefully that will help me to blog more :)

Pumpkin Carving

This weekend we gathered with our neighbors and carved pumpkins!

Did you know I do not like carving pumpkins? I have come up with other ideas in the past - melting crayons and painting pumpkins just so I did not have to cut into one, clean all the guts out and make it into something cool. Nik feels the same way.

But we do a lot of thinks we don't like for our kiddos, right?

Another mom (in the neighborhood) and I thought it would be fun for the kids - and it was! And guess what....we will probably do it every year from now on....good memories and all, right?

Here are some pics from our fun afternoon...
