I have been MIA for awhile. My step-dad, Scotty, passed away the evening of October 31.
It was a tough week - but a good one.
There were many stories and good memories recalled, with lots of laughter.
We had a good time with family.
Please keep my mom, Belinda, in your prayers as she transitions her everyday to a life without Scotty.
Scotty Butts, a lifelong resident of Roswell, passed away in his home on Saturday, October 31, 2020. He was reunited with both of his parents, and his best friend, Bill Adams, who all preceded him in death.
Scotty was born to Clifford & Mable (Bristow) Butts on December 12, 1947. His parents raised Scotty to love others by example. Scotty is a graduate of Roswell High School.
Scotty is survived by his wife of 14 years, Belinda Butts; his daughter, Jennifer (Calzada) Freese & Husband Fritz; his son, Shane Kennett & wife Krinna; Jessica Dunn & wife Amber, Carla Davis & husband Nik. Scotty is also survived by his grandchildren: Gabriella, Roman, Christian, Sarah, Taylor, Aubrey, Grace, Brooklyn, Madison, Brennen, Jaxen, and Zane.
He is additionally survived by his brother Wayne Butts and wife Kathy; sister Dana Link and husband Glen; uncle Norman “Babe” Butts and wife Aileen. Other survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
Scotty worked as a mechanic at Chevrolet and retired from TransWestern Pipeline in 2016 after 35 plus years of service. Starting out as a mechanic, he became a heavy equipment operator and transitioned into a pipeline operator among many other responsibilities. After retirement, Scotty enjoyed spending time helping his longtime friend, Allen Reed, at his shop, Equipment Service.
In September 2016, Scotty became a Lifetime Member of the Roswell Elks Lodge, having been a member for 43 years. Scotty loved the camaraderie from the club and cherished those friendships that came with it.
Throughout his life, Scotty enjoyed car racing, playing games, watching NASCAR, bowling, golfing, water skiing, boating, being at the lake, pushing people’s buttons, and spending time with his family and friends.
Scotty’s life was a testimony of his love for others. Having never met a stranger (literally, he knew everybody), his hand and home were always open. Scotty never passed up an opportunity to help someone else. It didn’t matter how big of a task, or tedious the work, Scotty put his all into it. He was hardworking and determined. Scotty was a man of integrity, even to a fault, with a strong will to match. Scotty was kind-hearted & selfless. If you needed the shirt off of his back, you didn’t even have to ask, it was yours. Being a simple man, he enjoyed what he had. Family was very important to him and he cherished his. He never forgot a birthday or anniversary.
Being a consistent and strong foundation, he knew the value of persistence and seeing things through. Scotty needed even the smallest detail to every situation planned out. So much so, he was known for being “Mother Butts”. Scotty was invested in his children’s lives by following up and staying current on the things that affected them. Scotty showed he cared in unusual ways like calling, even if only to discuss the weather. There was no guess work in where you stood with Scotty. He was sincere and true to his word and his convictions, even when he was stubborn and headstrong.
Scotty will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Gateway Church, 1900 N. Sycamore Avenue in Roswell at 2:00pm on Friday, November 6, 2020.
Donations in Scotty’s honor can be made to Meals on Wheels in Chaves county in lieu of flowers.
