Comparison

I love looking back at pictures of Jaxen and seeing if and how much Zane looks like him! I did this the other day and posted this on Facebook…

Jaxen (left) / Zane (right) - about 9 months of age

Here are the single shots of each...

Jaxen

Zane

Jaxen

Zane

One of the (many) differences of these two, is how they sleep. Jaxen always slept on his back when he was a baby (and, because of allergies, with a pillow). Zane sleeps on his tummy. And has since he first slept in his crib.

Jaxen

Zane

Also - Zane is a mover! You could always find Jaxen in the same position that he fell asleep in, the next morning. Not Zane…he moves all around all night long! It is so funny how many times I will see him on the monitor slouched in a corner, fast asleep.

**********

We get asked the question “who do your kids look like?” often. The majority of people think Jaxen looks like Nik and I look like Zane. Although - if you look hard enough I think there are bits of both of us in their sweet precious faces. So I looked (quickly) for a few pics of Nik and I when we were younger. I know I have others, but I didn’t take a lot of time. So this will have to do…see what you think!

First - pics of me…

And Nik….

Haha! These pictures of us make me laugh!
So what do you think?!

It’s Friday!

It’s Friday!
I don’t know why…but this week has felt really long.

It could be because Nik has been extremely busy,
or that some plans of mine got cancelled,
or because 2 mornings this week my 4 year old has woken up way too early,
or because my 9 month old has woken up at midnight every night this week…
take your pick :)

But, it’s Friday - and I’m happy that my cutie husband is taking the day off!
And tomorrow (while Nik is out of town again) I invited over 2 other mommas with their kiddos.
My plan: let the kids destroy the house and have fun while I drink hot tea
and have deep, meaningful, much-needed conversations with adults.
How it will probably go: kids fighting and someone gets sick.
Meaning, no adult conversation and all us mommas
feeling more tired than we did before the day started.
I have learned to lower my expectations - haha!

I have taken very few pictures this week - so here is what I have for you today:

Jaxen loves ‘teaching’ me. Only me. Not Zane. Haha.
We were learning about tires and ovals and triangles.
He is a pretty bossy teacher.
I have idea where he gets his bossiness from!

A funny Jaxen story:
Today for school it was hat day.
And all of us drove him to school today.
As he was getting out of the car, he said “Hat a good day today!”
Hahahaha!
I thought it was sooo funny.
Nik rolled his eyes.

I made peanut butter cookies a few nights ago.
So soft and yummy. They hit the spot!

And last night while I was cooking dinner - this happened:

It was seriously sooo loud.
But so cute that both boys were playing together and having a great time!

Our night went downhill shortly after that.
Jaxen (because he woke up so early) was exhausted.
And it was one thing after another until he was in bed at 7pm.
Thankfully, he slept through the night (until 7am) and was his normal, happy self!

Hope you guys have a great weekend!

Life Lately

Here is a glimpse into our life lately…

Nik was out of town Friday night and Saturday.
While I was trying to entertain my two boys Jaxen decided we needed to build a fort…
can you spot him?

The fort worked pretty well,
except every time Zane touched a blanket the whole thing would fall down
and Jaxen kept messing it up when he would crawl in and out.
So - basically, it was a disaster :)

Saturday morning Jaxen wanted to build a fort again and
that is when I texted Nik “where is a tent?”

Not long after - we had a tent all setup in our house!

Jaxen (and Zane) had a great time playing in it!

Anytime I have both boys by myself - I always suggest a bath!
Both boys love it, they are contained for a few minutes (Jaxen, sometimes up to an hour),
and they get clean. Win.

Zane discovered putting his face on the door.
It was hilarious!

And here is my cutie-pie drinking water from a bottle (finally holding it by himself)
because I lost his sippy cup. His one and only sippy cup.

Since then I have purchased another one.
One.
I despise sippy cups, and will purchase one at a time until they past my test of
being a good sippy cup or not.

Nik returned home that evening,
we had delicious Chinese food for dinner and then Nik kindly
moved the tent from downstairs to upstairs so Jaxen could sleep in it!

I snuck in after Jaxen fell asleep and took a picture.
He is so small and so big and so cute and some days I want time to stand still.

Zane has discovered that under our kitchen table is a whole new play land (and teething area)!
We have had to rescue him from getting stuck more than once.

And we got snow today!
It was beautiful and it put a smile on my face.
That is how I know I love living in the north, I love winter and snow :)

Nik has a lot of meetings this week...I have a lot of appointments this week…
and I’m trying really hard to not order Chinese food for lunch every day this week.
Leftovers it is.

But I did make something yummy the other day…
Leftover BBQ Chicken, in a quesadilla. Yum!

One more thing…
I had a meeting today about the Occupational and Speech therapies that Jaxen is receiving.
The conclusion: Jaxen will no longer receive Occupational Therapy.
He will still receive Speech Therapy 3 times a week, through the school year.
I feel good about the decisions made and am thankful
that he has progressed so much!

I think that is all.
For now.
Have a happy week!

Our Time in NM

I have been having some blogger issues - so sorry for the delay in my posts!

But here is the recap of our visit to NM…

We left on a Tuesday afternoon (I think our first flight was 3pm)
and I decided that I don’t like flying that late.
Yes, it was nice to not rush around that morning…
but it made for a really hard day for my kiddos.

The first flight consisted of a blowout diaper; no changing table in the restroom;
and a plane that was so hot - Zane ended up in just a diaper to keep him cool.

This picture was taken on our 2nd flight (I think).
After this cute picture of our family - things went downhill!
Jaxen had been up since 6am and had yet to take a nap; and Zane was having a hard time napping.
Let’s just say we had a few meltdowns!

Our last flight was much better and we made it safe and sound
around 11pm (NM time) / 1am (NY time).

Look how gorgeous the weather was on Wednesday...
I could not believe how hot it was!
That was the warmest day there.
The rest of the week the weather was cooler, but still pretty nice.

Nik and Jaxen took advantage of the warm day with
time at a few parks!

I hung out with my mom and mamaw!
While we were getting my mamaw's hearing aids checked I noticed this alien in the corner.
Only in Roswell, NM would there be an alien in the doctor’s office - haha!

Speaking of Mamaw - She got to meet Zane for the first time!

And Zane got to meet Lucky (which he ended up loving)!

Thursday we made a quick trip to Bonita Park.
We had a great time touring some of the new facilities and stopping for a quick pic
at the prayer pond.
I love this picture of our two boys sitting next to Nik and I’s brick.
And I’m thinking I need to get a brick for Jaxen and Zane!

We did play some games while visiting…which is one of my favorite things to do!
I did not win many…but I did capture this win on my last night there!

Zane enjoyed cards as well :)

And he enjoyed exploring the house!

On our last day there, Scotty agreed to take Jaxen (and Nik) out in
his truck for a ride. Jaxen loved it!

I enjoyed seeing my family; playing games; eating mexican food;
and visiting with friends!

It was a great trip - I just wish it was a tad longer :(

Zane was pretty clingy to me…
but I was able to snap a few cute pics of him with my family before we left.

Pepaw Scotty and Zane

Zane and Aunt Jessie

Our trip home (the following Tuesday) was one of the best flight days we have had!
First flight, leaving Roswell, a very kind pilot asked Jaxen if he wanted to wear his hat onto the plane.
Jaxen liked it and looked so adorable!

The boys were super good on all three flights.
They played and napped really well.
Zane loved it when he got to sit in Jaxen’s seat.
(see Jaxen in the floorboard? that’s how we roll - haha!)

On our second flight, leaving Dallas, Jaxen was invited to see the cockpit
and talk to the pilots!

And on our third flight, leaving Washing DC, he was invited into the cock pit
and they let him touch buttons and start an engine!
I couldn’t believe it - they were so sweet to him!

On our very short third and last flight home, both boys past out.
They were sleeping so good, we decided to be the very last ones off the plane,
just so they could rest a bit more.

We were home by 6pm that night and we all crashed in our beds, happy to be home!
