Thanksgiving Recap

Here is a look at our Thanksgiving day...

Nik was still awake when the boys woke up so we got to spend some unexpected time with him that morning! By 9:00am, we were all sitting around the table enjoying cinnamon rolls and bacon!

Ever since I put our tree up - Zane has been so excited to hang the ornaments.
I was trying to wait until after Thanksgiving - but I gave in and by 10am Zane had hung his 1/2 of the ornaments on the tree. He was very proud of himself!

Jaxen and I taught Zane how to play "Go Fish" recently and so he challenged Nik and I to a game. He won!

The rest of the morning the boys hung on the couch (eating popcorn) and watched a movie together while I made Chocolate Pie. I eventually joined them.

After the movie, Jaxen finally decided he would hang his 1/2 of the ornaments on the tree!

Then the boys and I did some coloring while Nik napped.

For lunch that day, I cleaned out the freezer - think Hot Pockets, Chicken Nuggets, Fries...etc. The boys were thrilled and I let them eat while watching a movie in their room. I sat down around 2:00pm and snacked on some french fries (and also had yogurt) while reading my book.

By 3:30pm we had the Cowboys game on - ready to watch (and nap)!

We finally sat down for our Thanksgiving Meal at 6:45pm. Steak, rolls, salad and of course, QT drinks for everyone!

After our wonderful meal, Nik lit the first fire of the season in our fireplace and we finished up the game while eating Chocolate Pie!

After the boys went to bed, Nik and I watched the new movie, King Richard - it checked all my boxes for a good movie: based on a true story, a subject I like (tennis) and an actor I like (Will Smith)!

And that was our day! It was great!

I am so thankful for my little family - what a blessing they are!

Slowing Down

I have not blogged lately because not much is going on!

The kids are out of school this week for Thanksgiving Break. I am working from home a bit, so Nik can get a little sleep in the mornings with the kids home. He officially started his "busy season" at work, going in earlier than normal, and will start working Sunday's this weekend.

The boys are starting basketball soon - but thankfully it will be a bit slower pace than the football season was. Plus, I'm not coaching!

Work is still pretty busy for me. We are having a hard time filling any of the 3 open positions right now. I hope that changes after the New Year. We will see!

We have a very relaxed, low-key Thanksgiving planned. I hope to do something fun with the kiddos, but it just depends on what is actually open, and how we feel. I'll keep you posted!

That's all I have for now - Enjoying the slower pace of life.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Fall Pics

This past Sunday I asked my boys if they would be willing to let me take a few pics of them, outside. They were not thrilled, but they obliged :) So we headed to a trail that was close by and I snapped a few pics. They are not professional, and I wish we had done a few more "poses" - but I'll take it!

Look how handsome!

They asked to do a "cool" pose...

And this is what they were doing every second I did not make them stand still - ha!

I asked them to sit on the pavement and it was wet - so they had wet bottoms are were not thrilled with me....that's the reason they are not smiling with Nik!

And of course, Zane is "over-smiling" with me!

We let the boys take pictures of us, and they turned out great!

And a selfie to end on!

Funnies

Hope one or two of these make you smile today!

Seriously, right?!
I'm pretty sure my first year of college I asked for toiletries and food.

I read this one night and then the next morning, I cancelled my dentist appointment.
If you have ever talked to me 24 hours after an appointment then this makes sense!
Now I have to find the courage to schedule it again :)

Haha!

If you know. You know.
Name one CFA that it's location does not have challenges!

So true, right?!

Happy Friday! Hope everyone has a good weekend :)

19 years...

This is what 19 years of marriage looks like....

Eating an exceptional lunch - without kids!

Nik was able to take the night off of work and I was able to take the afternoon off. So we met up about noon - and went out for lunch. Afterward, we tried to get a start on Christmas shopping (no luck) and ended our time with our favorite ice cream before heading home to be there when the kids got out of school.

The weather was perfect. Fall in KC is actually really nice - the sun was out, there was a cool breeze and the leaves were perfect fall colors! Nik and I had a great afternoon together. It was low-key. Nothing planned. But we really enjoyed each other's company.

I am so thankful that the past 19 years have had more laughter than fighting, more smiles than tears, more good days than bad. I am thankful that Nik has a desire to work at our marriage with me and help make it what it is. I remember one day (early on) telling Nik that I did not want an "ok" marriage. I wanted a great one. Is it always great - no. But the times it is not - we work at it. Sometimes it's easy to fix and get back on track. Other times it takes more work - but we are both willing and for that I am thankful! I love him. I want another 19 years (or more) with him :)

Turkey in Disguise

Both boys brought a homework assignment home over the weekend - to disguise your turkey so it will not be eaten on Thanksgiving.

I am not the most creative person - plus I don't keep lots of art supplies/crafts anymore - plus I have two boys who would rather be playing outside with friends on a beautiful fall weekend.

I googled how in the world to disguise a paper turkey - and found an idea both boys were behind...

A Chief's football player - because, of course.

I actually found 2 Chiefs folders in my school supply stash - which was perfect and made Zane's pretty easy to accomplish. First, he colored the turkey (because he wanted to); then I cut the helmet out and he glued it on; next, I made a jersey from the rest of the folder; he then drew and colored cleats/football - I cut them and he glued them on. Done. Easy-peasy.

Jaxen's turkey was smaller - so it was a bit more difficult. I still cut created the jersey from  the folder while he learned how to draw a helmet. I thought he did so good with the helmet! He finished coloring the turkey and then called it good.

If you are wondering why he went with a Chief's football player and not the Cowboys, it's because Jaxen's turkey is wearing Tyrann Mathieu's number - but Jaxen will call him "Turkey Mathieu" :)

Life Lately

Here is a bit of life lately for you....

I love setting the TV up outside, watching football (eating pizza at the same time is just a bonus)!

Jaxen talked me into playing Monopoly over a weekend. It was not too bad when you play for 1 hour here and there. He beat me. Bad. Park Place and Boardwalk with houses are no joke. I only had "savings" to land on them twice. That third time did me in. Haha.

Nik enjoys taking the boys to see cool cars. They apparently love to pose in front of those cool cars. Please notice my kids are both in shorts, but Zane has a jacket on. (It was new and he wanted to wear it, even though it was hot outside).

I love the little moments when my boys are being sweet. Jaxen was reading us bedtime stories one night when we had a sleepover together.

I'm thankful I can work from home when needed. Zane was sick a few days so I worked at home in the mornings, while Nik slept. Here is me... in my element - messy hair, comfortable clothes and hot tea in my favorite mug.

A little later - a sweet boy wanted a pic with me and my (blue-light blocking) glasses.

Zane's day, week, month, maybe year was made when a friend of his gave him this huge dinosaur that was never played with anymore. Zane has had the best time with Tooth. That's his name.

Good night Tooth, and Zane.

Zane has really been into drawing lately - can you tell what this is a picture of? The KC Chiefs and the Dallas Cowboys playing football. Zane is doing excellent with his letters and over the weekend, I taught him how to draw a star. We find pictures like this all over our house now!

And last, but not least - look at what my hubby received at work: Peer MVP. People love working with Nik. They are always glad when they find out he is their supervisor (he moves around a lot).

Halloween Fun

Friday the kiddos were allowed to dress up for their classes Fall Party. Jaxen was SWAT (same as last year) and Zane was Spiderman (an old costume as well). They both wanted to be tackle football players (go figure) but I did not want to spend the money on all the gear....so "leftovers" it was - and they had a great Halloween.

We purchased some colored hair-spray and I think that was their favorite part!

Zane has really been into decorating this year. See all of his creations in the window?  Everyday there was something new.

On Sunday afternoon we had some neighbors and friends from Zane's football team over. Nik brought the TV outside so we could watched the Saints and Cowboys pull out a win (woo-hoo)! We had the campfire pit and of course, hot dogs and s'mores! Everyone had a great time. We laughed, the kids played and we just enjoyed the night. I only have 1 picture and it is of all the kiddos before they went trick-or-treating.

Jaxen thanked Nik and I later that night for such a great Halloween :) It was fun. And the best part? Kids were showered and in bed by 9pm. Not too bad, right?!
