Weekend Happenings - House Edition - Part II

In the last post, you saw some of our weekend happenings over at the house, and here’s the rest!

We spent all weekend over there.

And I have to say…the boys did really good in the midst of our “construction zone”. 

We found creative ways they could help, brought some stuff for them to do to 

stay busy and when things started to go south, we let them lay

on a mattress downstairs and watch a show for quiet time each day.

I offered for them to possibly go elsewhere, 

but they just wanted to be at the new house - with us!

They are excited!

Jaxen now knows how to pull up tack board, pull out staples and hammer nails.

Skills for life :)

I brought golf-tees with me Friday night and let them “hammer” them into a box.

 And they played outside - sometimes, without a shirt on!

(Zane got his shirt really wet, and it was too cold for him to have a wet shirt on, 

but he insisted on playing out there anyway - with no shirt).

Yes, that was probably bad parenting - and yes, he will probably get sick this week.

No judgement.

The kid has not had a back yard for over a year! Ha!

Our bedroom got a little love…

it got cleaned up, the place where the chair rail was got mudded, and the closet got painted!

It went from this…

to this!

The closet still needs to be put back together, the new wall needs to be sanded one more time,

the room needs paint, it needs floor laid and then it all needs to be cleaned!

Here is the “before pic”.

And some major work in our living room happened too…

New insulation is in, and sheet rock is almost all up, plus some tape and mud!

Oh, and I cleaned the main bathroom.

Our plan is to move on Saturday!!!

And no…we will not be done with all the work.

We hope to have our bedroom and the boys bedroom completely finished,

as well as all the sheet rock up in the living room.

We can store everything else in the basement while we finish up the living room. 

We need to move Saturday though, so I can get our apartment completely cleaned

and officially moved out by the following Friday.

Weekend Happenings - House Edition - Part I

A lot happened this weekend - take a look!

The boys bedroom is almost complete!
It has been painted (gray and one wall blue). Jaxen’s choosing.
I think it’s a bit much…but he loves it!
I’ll tone it down with curtains and wall hangings.

I took everything out of the closet (there were lots of random shelves)
painted it, and re-hung one clothes rod.
And I even took off the fan blades, peeled stickers, cleaned it and put them back up.

All that is left is the flooring, a wall vent and a curtain rod to be hung.

And do you know what’s even a bit crazier than painting a “KC Royals” blue wall?

Letting my 6 and 2 year-old help!

They went with me to pick the paint color, pick up the stuff and then painted!

And I have to say…yes, it could have been done faster, neater, and cleaner…

but we had the best time and made memories in our home.

I hope I never forget that. It was such a fun time!

One more thing before the pics -  I made my kiddos take off their clothes.

Paint is easier to wash off of bodies than out of clothes. 

But it was cold…and Jaxen eventually talked me into letting him put clothes back on.

And yes, they have paint on them now. You win some, you lose some :)

 

 

After we all painted the blue wall - I let Jaxen help me paint the rest of the walls,

the closet and the laundry room!

Master Bedroom Demo

The other demo that has taken place is in the master bedroom.

Between our room and our bathroom, there was a semi-open vanity area
(plus a chair rail around the whole room).

Because Nik and I keep opposite schedules, we decided we wanted to “wall” that part of the room. 

Here is the demo…

and here it is, as of Tuesday…much better

(and the chair rail is gone)!

Demo Day

Well, last Friday we closed on our new home...

… and Saturday we went to work!

All the carpet on the main level needed to come out as well as 1/2 a wall 

and what I am calling, our “fence”. 

This is the wall - it is between the kitchen and living room. 

And this is the “fence”. 

Jim and Jaxen got to work on the fence...

and Becky got to work on the carpet!

Jaxen loved Demo Day!

We let him kick down part of the wall and he was so excited!

Look at that face! 

This was after the wall came down. 

All the carpet is out of the house, plus the “fence” and most of the wall.

We have to work with a contractor and an electrician to 

make sure everything is structurally sound and done correctly. 

Because we took out 1/2 a wall, we needed to replace the paneling 

with sheetrock on that side of the room.

Well, since we were replacing the paneling on one side,

we decided to replace the paneling on the other side too!

And since we are tearing out the paneling,

we might as well add new insulation, right?!

Are you seeing a pattern?!

Haha!

Here is the opposite wall in the living room.

And the wall above the fence. 

One of my co-worker’s husband has been helping out some,

and he made this non-working light/fan, working, plus he added a double switch for it!

Lots of work…but we are excited!

Not all of this happened on Saturday.

Nik has been there Monday and today as well, with a helper!

Pumpkins

Jaxen had a “Character Pumpkin” day at school. Basically you decorate a pumpkin to look like your favorite book character. I had all kinds of great ideas for it but when I talked to Jaxen about it - he was dead set on a character from his favorite super-hero book, Zinger. Although I couldn’t figure out how to draw Zinger, we decided to make the pumpkin look like the page in the book that Zinger is on. And, he let Zane help!

I let Jaxen use my blow dryer to help dry it as we used different colors of paint. 

The finished product - Not perfect…but we tried :)

Jaxen’s class had a field trip one day to a farm near by. 

And I think (from these pics, anyways) that he had a fun time!
