Potty Training - Update

Let me start by telling you a few things I have learned while potty-training:

1. I always said I was ready to be done with diapers - that once Jaxen was potty trained, it would be much easier. Wrong. Diapers are easy. I slap one on him and go about our day. Change when needed. That's it. When Jaxen is using the potty, I have to find him a potty every 20 minutes (give or take). No matter where we are. Every time we leave the house, it has to be planned accordingly. And every time we stop anywhere it takes twice as long. Potty when we get there, while we are there, and before we go. Get my point? Just this past Sunday we were at the park and I witness a little boy peeing on part of the equipment because be had to go, at that very moment. I also saw a dad take their son behind a bush and no less than 10 minutes later - that very same boy pulled down his pants (where everyone could see) and yelled to his dad he had to poop. That dad came running over, scooped him up and off they went. My point? Jaxen just went potty in his diaper and we stayed as long as we wanted.

2. I also said that I wanted Jaxen potty trained because I was tired of changing dirty diapers. Not anymore. I will gladly take a dirty diaper over him pooping in his undies and me cleaning it up (wherever we might be - even if it's at the end of the aisle in target, bent over, on their floor. Keep reading...).

I'm sure there is more that I have learned from this experience, but those are the big two.

So where are we with the potty training?

We are back in diapers.

Why?

There was a day I took Jaxen to target. We did all the right things...(stopping to potty every three minutes and all)... And we were in the far corner of the store (away from the bathrooms) when Jaxen went poop. This was not normal poop. I knew after assessing the situation for a few minutes that it would be easier to lay him down right there in the aisle on their floor for anyone to see and smell than it would be to wrangle him and his poopy britches to the bathroom. I know what you are thinking.... That is disgusting and you should be in the bathroom when you take care of that kind of business. Yes, I agreed with that statement…until my child did it! He would not walk in his poopy pants, because it was making more of a mess, and I'm sure was it was also uncomfortable. And I could not figure out how to carry him without it making a bigger mess. I'm really trying to save you the graphic details, so just trust me! Anyway, I changed him, prayed no one saw us, put him in a diaper, and he has been in them ever since!

One of the other reasons he is in diapers for now, is because I don’t want to risk the pooping happening somewhere public again and it getting messy and/or someone else having to clean it up! That is just not a job that someone besides the parent should be doing. Right?!

Don’t worry. Although I think it is easier for now…Jaxen will not be in diapers forever. Actually, I have a plan. I just haven’t had the couple of days it may take to implement it.

With all the poop talk - let me clarify something. When it come to going pee pee in the potty, Jaxen had it down! He would know when he needed to go, tell us, and go - no problems! So do I think putting him in diapers will set him back? No. I don’t. Maybe it will, but I just don’t think so. I think when we are ready to give it another go - he will be just fine.

So - that is my update and where we are with potty training. It may be more than you wanted to know…but I knew you would want some kind of update!

And because there are not really any pictures to go with this post (you may thank me in the comments) I have included a few from the park the other night!

Pics from the Week

Jaxen and this lion had a stare down for a few seconds.
He was never really too sure about it!

We pulled out the Play-doh one afternoon and had a great time making creations.

Jaxen enjoyed using the fork and knife and kept serving me “pizza”.

After Play-doh time - it was time for a popsicle outside!

Later that night, we went to look for new shoes for Nik and Jaxen insisted on trying these heels on.
I finally made him take them off because I just knew he was going to fall and break something.

After the shoes - we hung out in front of this really cool “thing” forever.
Not sure what it is called….but it drops different balls down and they go through all sorts of mazes.

It was really fun to watch!

Saturday, Nik was gone all day on a  youth trip and so I had Jaxen to myself.
The minute he woke up we walked to a softball field, where our church team was playing.

Jaxen watched the entire game (could not believe it) -
good thing he had a friend to hang out with!

After the game - he got to play on their playground a bit before heading home.

We walked home through the park and Jaxen had the best time riding along in his stroller.

Saturday night is Bath Night - and he was one dirty little boy.
All Clean!

I will leave you with our Sunday Selfies!

We have a big week coming up…
lots going on…
plus…
my little boy turns three!!!!!

Parade - Take 2

We were invited to grill-out and then walk down the street of our friends house to watch the Annual Dairy Parade Friday evening with a group of friends. I reluctantly agreed. Remember what happened last time we planned to meet and watch a parade?!?

Let me set the record straight - this parade did not disappoint!

Jaxen, running with his friends down the street.
I love watching Jaxen with his older friends.
He wants to do everything they do and be a part of it all.
He is not always the nicest to them, but his friends take it pretty good.
And they totally love him. I love how they watch out for him.
I hope that Jaxen can be as great of an “older” friend to some littles one day!

Here is part of the crew, waiting on the parade to start.
And don’t ask me why his shoes are off…notice another little boys shoes off?
Monkey see, monkey do :)

At one point during the parade - candy was thrown!
If you can’t tell, Jaxen loved his sucker!

There was a band…actually 2 or three of them!

A few cows…although I have to say for being a Dairy Parade, I thought there would be more!

And lots of tractors!
You would have thought this was the “Tractor / John Deere” Parade.
Seriously lots of tractors!

And then…there was sample ice cream handed out!
And it was even the good stuff!
Kortne, Ciersyn and Jaxen

I love this picture. Evening is focused on the ice cream!

This was a pretty cool old fire truck...

And Jaxen loved this, of course!

To end the night we went back to our friends house - had a campfire and played until almost dark.

On another note…
Yesterday was National Donut Day.
And our Pastor is crazy.
He went all around town yesterday - eating and sharing donuts with people.
Last night was no exception.
He brought donuts for everyone!

Here he is, with the kids and their donuts!
If you look closely, you can see Jaxen talking on his “phone”.
He must have already eaten his donut.
He cracks me up.

So…to sum it all up -

My faith in parades is restored.
We will definitely attend the Dairy Parade again.
Friends are great.
Donuts are good.

Daddy and Jaxen Time

There are some things that Jaxen can only do with his daddy….

Like - playing “swords” with plastic golf clubs!

Seriously. These two.

I just sit and watch (and sometimes take cover!).

Enjoying…Last Week

Last week we enjoyed…

Popsicles and pajamas outside!
We had some beautiful, warm days last week and Jaxen
was thrilled to be outside first thing in the morning…with a popcicle!

The warm temps!
I’ll take 76 inside / 82 outside any day of the week, after the brutal winter we had!
I do have to tell you, as I type this post, it is rainy and 50 degrees outside.
We have a week of this weather - yuck!

Sitting outside!
Jaxen and I like to sit outside after his afternoon naps.
Most days we sit outside and wait on Ms. Lindsey for Speech Therapy.

Playtime with mommy.
I am trying to teach Jaxen to share better - so I try to have intentional playtime with him!

Helping daddy.
Nik was carrying some wood over to our house, from a tree that was trimmed at the church.
Of course, Jaxen wanted to help. So he loaded logs on to his lawn mower and
carried them all the way home! It was a slow process - but he was being helpful!

Playing with boxes.
Jaxen just loves a good box!

Eating cupcakes.
I made cupcakes for an event this weekend (and I made a few extra) -
Jaxen sure enjoyed them!

Fires at night!
We purchased a fire pit recently. I love having campfires at night, but had no place to have one at home. Hence, the fire pit! We finally pulled it out to have our first fire and
then the rains came….oh well. Looking forward to many outdoor fires this summer!

Jaxen got tired of the smoke and heat from it, so he set up his stroller and chilled!

Our family!

Church with daddy!
I did not get a Sunday Selfie…so I snapped this picture of Nik and Jaxen at church!
