A Walk…and a Rant

This morning Jaxen and I went on a walk.
The first 15 minutes - Jaxen looked like this:
That is real tears and snot coming from my child.
And yes, he is trying to climb out of the stroller.

He has been in this terrible mood for a couple of days now.

On Wednesday we went to the mall in Syracuse with some friends
and he pretty much threw a tantrum the entire time. Entire time.

Then we went to dinner and after about 3 full-out tantrums in the restaurant
and many time-outs, outside cooling off - he got mad, picked up a fork and knife...
and threw it. THREW IT. And hit a person.
Can you believe it?! I could not.

Sometime later, Nik got him calmed down.
And then he finally ate some dinner and was okay the rest of the night.

Today he threw a tantrum for almost one hour straight.
I tried to get him to eat lunch and after multiple fits of rage and throwing things
I tried to put him down for a nap.
An hour later, he is asleep.

Is this the terrible twos?!
Or is my chid just terrible?
This will pass, right?!

There is a fine line between giving-in to what he wants to make him happy
and teaching him to obey.
Fine Line.

And that was my rant.

On with my walk...

Walking through the park. It’s actually really pretty,
even with the dead trees!!

There is a look-out point at the park, where you can see most of Watertown.
Again, pretty - but dead trees.

After Jaxen calmed down and relaxed, he almost went to sleep!

On my walk, I passed by the back of our house…the white one.

And just down the road, is our church!
Side view.

The front.

Today is Good Friday.
We have a service at church tonight, which I know will be powerful.
The staff have been working and planning all week.

I hope you have a Good Friday.
I hope you take the time today to ponder what happened on this day, long ago.

Easter Egg Hunt…and Snow

This past weekend was absolutely beautiful!

So was yesterday!

Jaxen and I went on a walk yesterday afternoon. It was overcast, but still warm - really, perfect weather! Then, all of a sudden, it started to rain…and get cold. We were stranded far from home in the rain. Not good! I called Nik and thankfully, he was able to come pick us up! We were pretty wet and cold by the time he got there, but I was so glad he came!

This shows you the weather we had…
Warm Monday (with rain) / Rain and Snow Today / Cold and Sunny tomorrow

And here was the snow today…

It actually snowed for a couple of hours, but did not really stick.

So…because of the weather, our church held their Easter Egg Hunt inside.
Jaxen knew exactly what to do this year!
It must have been all our practice from last year (haha!)

(Last Year)

Still funny colored-pictures..
Picking up the eggs that were well hidden inside the church!

I tried to fix the color, but I think I just made everything orange!

After awhile, he had so many eggs…
I reached in his bucket and threw out the ones he had already picked up!
Is that mean, or clever?
He hunted eggs for a long time and all the other
kids were able to get plenty of eggs as well.

(Last Year)

After the egg hunt, we were in the secretary’s office and Jaxen
started playing on her phone (with her permission).
He was talking and laughing...It was so cute!
He even drew a crowd of on-lookers.
He was the center of attention and loved every minute of it!

Weekend Recap

Before I start this weekend recap (with pictures) I have to tell you - while Jaxen was taking a “selfie” this weekend….

He hit some button on my phone that makes my pictures turn out in this weird (semi-cool) different color. I’m sure there is a name for this mode, but I prefer ‘weird (semi-cool) different color’. Anyways…I have not asked Nik yet to fix my phone, so all the pics in this post will look like that.

And that’s the end of that long rabbit-trail.

On to our weekend…

Nik stayed at an all-nighter at the church Friday night. He got home around 8:30am Saturday, just as Jaxen and I were waking up. So we got up and he went to bed!

It was a beautiful day on Saturday so Jaxen and I went outside to do some yard work.

Jaxen was still in his pajamas.
And he enjoyed “helping”.

This is part of our back lawn area - which all had to be raked.

And then I got distracted from my work while I met one of my neighbors! It was the first neighbor I had met. She was very nice and we talked for awhile. I pretty much had the best neighbors ever, in Texas…and probably no other neighbor will even compare - but I am excited to get to know my neighbors here. The way it is setup here (at least in our neighborhood) - you basically cannot be outside with out running into a neighbor if they are outside as well (meaning, no privacy fences and the homes are really close together). Anyways, she was sweet and offered that Jaxen could come over and swing on their swing set any time he wanted.

After the nice neighbor-run-in, I decided it was time to go inside and tackle the dishes from the night before. Can you believe I had company over and served food and still had this mess in my sink?! I was all about keeping it real!

After lunch, Nik woke up and we hit the road to look at vehicles. FAIL.

For dinner we grilled out over at the pastor’s house. And then we came home to get ready for Church the next morning (clothes out, ironed, Jaxen’s bag ready…). All the stuff I used to do on a Sunday morning, I now do on Saturday night so we can be at church by 8am.

Church was really good! We enjoy attending both services and different Sunday School classes each week. Nik had a part in the sermon today where he went up and spoke for a few minutes on the Kingdom of God. And I was helping in the back, running all the morning slides for both services. One of these days, I will do a blog-post on what Nik actually does for his new job here.

After church, we attend a small-group. This small group meets every other Sunday, in someone’s home. We eat lunch and hire a baby-sitter to watch all the kids while we watch a video and have discussion. The group we are meeting with are great. They are all in the same stage of life as Nik and I - and we are really having a fun time getting to know them and bond with them through this small group!

This afternoon, the temps actually reached into the 70’s! It was such a gorgeous day outside. Once we laid Jaxen down for a (much-needed) nap - Nik and I worked on organizing our garage. We still had unpacked, unopened boxes in there. So we put a pretty nice dent into the work. It’s not perfect…but we are getting there.

I also finished raking the leaves in the front yard…and met another neighbor! He was out front raking leaves as well - so that was pretty much our conversation! But he was nice, and it was good to finally meet him. We have just waved in the past.

Since it was such a beautiful day - there were many people outside and many kids playing together out in the streets. I wanted to take a picture…but then I would be labeled the ‘neighborhood creeper’ and it’s too early for me to labeled that way! Haha!

Once Jaxen woke from his nap - we went to pick up Chinese food for dinner. I thought this place was a drive-thru so I didn’t bother putting pants on Jaxen. Oops! Come to find out, we had to go in to order our food. Jaxen was wearing a polo and a diaper. We are classy!

So we came home to eat our dinner and when Jaxen was done, I let him down from his highchair. This is what I saw…

A piece of cheese stuck on the back of his left leg! It cracked me up - so of course, I had to take a picture!

After dinner we loaded him back in the car (and we did put some pajamas on him this time - a top and a bottom!) and we went to look at one more place someone told us about to check out vehicles. It was a bust. But while we were driving through the ‘downtown’ area I took this pic...

Which I thought actually turned out pretty cool!

Jaxen is in bed and Nik went to a friends house to watch the Boston Red Sox vs. Yankees game. The friend is a Yankees fan (as most people here are)…but I’m sure Nik will have fun.

I am trying to muster up the energy to clean my house (seriously, how does it get so out of control so fast?!) or do some laundry. Laundry will probably win because I’m out of some very important pieces of clothes (know what I mean - haha!).

This is Easter Week! Which means, the church staff will be busy preparing for different services, Easter Egg Hunts, and other activities. And it is Spring Break here. Funny, huh? It just seems so late to me, to have Spring Break. But I’m sure it will be a good week…Hope yours is good as well!

Late Friday Night...

Tonight you get a blog post of a bunch of random thoughts. And probably no pictures. We’ll see.

Nik is at the church tonight, hanging out with 30 plus teens, for a Nerf War Lock-In. Sounds fun, right?! (sarcasm).  Before the lock-in, the teens went on a progressive dinner (where each course of the meal is served at different homes). I hosted the dessert course. And I made Nik’s favorite…Chocolate Chip Lava Cookies - hot, and with ice cream. Yum! Everybody loved them. From our house everyone went to the church for the all-nighter while I stayed here and put Jaxen to bed and then half-way cleaned up the kitchen. All the dishes are piled by the sink and the cabinets are wiped down. That was all I had the energy for. I am much better at chores in the morning and so I will tackle the dishes when I get up tomorrow.

We don’t have any major plans tomorrow. I’m sure Nik will sleep part of the day. I really want and need to get outside and do some yard work. Almost all of the snow has melted and under the snow are a ton of leaves and branches. I guess early this winter they had a major ice storm and many of the tree limbs broke off. Before they ever got a chance to clean up from it, some major snow hit and this is the first time it has melted enough to even get to all that. So our yard needs some tending to. I was out yesterday picking up all the big branches and piling them up - now I just need to do some raking.

I also have to go to Lowes. Remember when I told you I needed to get a closert-insert-thing? Well, I purchased one…but it did not work. Now, I have to return that one and purchase another. It is always something. So all my clothes are scattered in the guest bedroom.

Still no second vehicle. This is taking awhile and it is really starting to cause some issues with us. I don’t know how people do it, using just one vehicle. So when Nik is awake enough tomorrow, we will go vehicle shopping (again).

This blog post is really going no where. I’m sorry. And I’m really tired, so I think I’m going to call it a night. Since this post was so lame - I’ll add some pictures from our week…

This is how Jaxen likes to shop now…
Leaning back in the cart with his snacks and drink!

At least one night a week (after Jaxen goes to bed) Nik and I
play cards, eat dessert (homemade apple pie someone gave us) and drink hot tea!

Chicken and Dumplings for dinner one night…YUMMY!

This is a picture I texted to Nik Thursday -
Jaxen decided to pour his milk on the furniture.
That was just the beginning of our very awful day.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

GOOD NIGHT!

Carousel Ride

Jaxen had his first carousel ride this weekend!

We drove to Syracuse to check out a car on Friday night (did not buy the car) and then we headed to the mall to grab some dinner. That may sound a little weird, but this mall is huge and offers some yummy eating choices.

Near the food court there is a carousel…right there in the mall! How cool is that?!

We decided to let Jaxen ride. And he had a great time!

He loved the movement and the music and said “Wow” about the entire time we were on it!

I think that was the funnest thing we did all weekend. I really don’t know what else we did all weekend, but we kept pretty busy. I did get in a short nap on Sunday. Which was wonderful!

It is raining here and has been all afternoon. We are supposed to have a really pretty end-of-the-week with temps reaching the 50’s! The cold weather has not been that bad. The only thing I’m really looking forward to is wearing flip flops again. My feet are not used to being in socks and shoes every day. They are ready for some freedom!

Since I Last Blogged...

I know I am not blogging very much. I have no excuses. You would think that I would have more free time to do things like blog, but I really don’t! Staying home with Jaxen takes a lot of energy. Plus we are still “settling in”. I don’t know how long that will take…but I am still unpacking some things. For example - just yesterday, I unpacked all our clothes and tried to organize our very small closet to fit everything. The solution…? I will use another closet for my clothes! But before I do that, I have to go purchase a closet insert/organizer thing that has a clothing rod and a shelf. So it will be a bit longer before my closet is finished. See….it just feels like everything takes a long time! Also, yesterday I spent 40 minutes on the phone/internet trying to figure out everything we needed to get our drivers license and car registration. Plus, I have been hanging out with some people from the church and having a little fun!

But here are a few of the things we have been up to since I last blogged….

* Jaxen got to play outside! It was for only about 15 minutes and he was decked out with mittens and everything…but at least he got to go outside!

* After our snowfall on Sunday, the temps have been a bit higher and the snow has been melting a ton…which is good news! That means spring is on its way!

* We are in the process of finding a second vehicle. We are in need of one! At first, we thought we might just purchase another car. But after the bits of snowfall we have had…we decided we needed a taller vehicle with at least all-wheel-drive. So - I will keep you updated on what we find.

* I went to help out a friend the other day and Jaxen went with me. He was sleepy and decided to take a nap while we worked. You can see the car and old phone that he was playing with in the picture!

* Nik bought Jaxen a new chair for his playroom. Doesn’t he look all grown up?!

* I have really enjoyed the time at home with Jaxen. He is still a bit under the weather…I guess his body is trying to fight off something. Every now and then he runs a low temp and he has been super tired lately. He took a 4 hour nap the other day and even slept 13 hours last night! You can see in this next picture that his cheeks are a little rosy.

He loves taking “selfies” with my phone!

* And here is one more picture of Jaxen. He loves M&M’s!

* We have tried some of the “new food” that was given to us when we arrived. The results: we both loved the Croghan Bologna but only Nik liked the cheese curds. They were squeaky to me and I didn’t love it. It was just okay.

* We are officially “New Yorkers”! We went this morning to get our Driver’s License. Right after we got them, I was texting with a friend and she invited us to lunch later this week. I replied and said “We would love to join ya’ll.” She replies with “New Yorkers don’t use Ya’ll!!!”

* We both got an Enhanced Driver’s License. That means, we can travel to Canada without having a passport. We are looking forward to our first trip across the border!

And one last tid-bit of information for you...

* I have recently been made aware of this…We are not considered “Upstate New York.” We are considered to live in the “North Country.”

That’s all for today! Off to got look at vehicles!

A Tour of our Home - Downstairs

Many of you have asked about our home and want to see pictures of it - so I took pictures awhile back (right after we moved in) and am just now getting around to posting them. I have done a bit more unpacking/decorating since these pictures were taken…but at least you can get an idea of what our house looks like!

I think I have mentioned that our home is old, built in the mid 1900s. I'm not sure of the date, or of the square footage. Although, I would really love to know the square footage.

As we tour, please keep some things in mind…this was before we unpacked much; we still need to purchase some things; and there are hardly any curtains up yet (those that are up, were placed before we arrived for a little privacy). I think that's it….Here we go!

So I will start my home tour with the Downstairs area (upstairs will be a different post, because I have not taken any pictures yet!)...

As you walk in the front door, here is the foyer

If you are standing in the foyer and look ahead, this is what you see

We are going to call this the fireplace room
(and I need to place some furniture in here still)

And then you have the Dining Room

The view from the kitchen, into the Dining Room

Here is the kitchen, looking from the dining room
(I have since purchased an island that sits on the far wall)

left side

right side

The door on the right side of the kitchen (by the sink)
leads to this bathroom/laundry area

The door on the left side of the kitchen (by the fridge)
leads to the outside/basement

This is the view of the back part of the fireplace room.
To the right is the dining/kichen, then the stars
and then Jaxen's playroom and
on the far left is what we call the TV room.

Jaxen's playroom

The TV room

And that concludes our downstairs tour -
Hope you enjoyed seeing a part of our home!

Upstairs to come…eventually!
